Itself consists of the insertion of fine needles into specific points throughout the body. Over 2,500 years ago the Chinese discovered these “acupoints” by configuring a system of “meridians” or channels that course through the body. A customized point prescription is selected for each individual patient based on their ailment and constitution. Upon insertion, the practitioner seeks out the “da qi” (pronounced duh-chi) for optimal results. Da qi is the arrival of the qi, or energy flow in the body, manifested as a dull ache or tingling sensation in and around the acupoint. Acupuncture is often used to treat a variety of ailments including back and neck pain, sciatica, headaches and migraines, allergies, indigestion, depression and more. Acupuncture can also be helpful if you suffer insomnia, want to quit smoking, lose weight or even improve fertility (treat infertility).

Acupressure is an alternative medicine technique developed even earlier than Acupuncture. It is based life energy which flows through “meridians” in the body. Applying physical pressure to trigger points helps clearing blockages in these meridians.
